AMORE PER ME STESSA

Mi chiamo Manuela e sono un’igienista dentale, ma prima di tutto sono una persona che ha imparato ad amare la propria fortuna. Spesso mi dico da sola che ne ho avuta tanta, perché la mia professione ogni giorno mi regala quella soddisfazione di sentirsi al posto giusto nel momento giusto.
Il mio viaggio è iniziato quasi per gioco, in una famiglia dove nessuno ne sapeva di come “illuminare i  sorrisi”.

Mi sono iscritta alla scuola odontotecnica senza un vero perché. Ma una volta terminato quel percorso, ho sentito un fuoco dentro: non mi bastava più:
– volevo di più – volevo scendere in campo – volevo l’università.

Quei tre anni sono stati una scalata incredibile. Ricordo ancora l’ultimo anno: la pancia che cresceva insieme ai libri, la stanchezza che sfidava la mia volontà. Al nono mese, mentre il mondo mi diceva di riposare, io sostenevo gli ultimi esami, e a ottobre è arrivato il traguardo più bello: mi sono laureata con mio figlio tra le braccia, aveva solo tre mesi. In quel momento non ero solo un’igienista dentale ma ero la prima laureata della mia famiglia, un orgoglio che ancora oggi mi commuove. Ho capito che non stavo solo costruendo una carriera, stavo scrivendo una storia di amore e tenacia.” Ciò che mi spinge ogni giorno ad entrare in studio è l’amore per le persone che si siedono sulla mia poltrona.
Per me, ogni paziente non è solo un “caso clinico”, ma una storia, una sensibilità, a volte anche una piccola paura da superare insieme. Mi piace pensare che, mentre mi prendo cura del loro sorriso, io stia restituendo loro un po’ di quella fiducia e di quel benessere che meritano.

La mia più grande soddisfazione? Non è solo un lavoro eseguito a regola d’arte, ma vedere un paziente che arriva teso e se ne va con un sorriso sincero, sapendo di essere stato ascoltato e coccolato. È per loro che ho studiato con mio figlio in braccio, ed è per loro che continuo a mettere passione in quello che faccio: perché ogni sorriso che aiuto a splendere è, per me, il regalo più bello.

LOVE FOR MYSELF

My name is Manuela and I am a dental hygienist, but first and foremost I am someone who has learned to appreciate their good fortune. I often tell myself that I have been very fortunate, because my profession gives me the satisfaction of feeling that I am in the right place at the right time every day.
My journey began almost as a game, in a family where no one knew how to “brighten smiles”.

I enrolled in dental technician school without any real reason. But once I finished that course, I felt a fire inside me: it wasn’t enough anymore:
– I wanted more – I wanted to get involved – I wanted to go to university.

Those three years were an incredible climb. I still remember the last year: my belly growing along with my books, fatigue challenging my willpower. In my ninth month, while the world told me to rest, I took my final exams, and in October I reached the most beautiful milestone: I graduated with my son in my arms, he was only three months old. At that moment, I was not only a dental hygienist, but also the first graduate in my family, a source of pride that still moves me today. I realised that I was not just building a career, I was writing a story of love and tenacity. What drives me to go to work every day is my love for the people who sit in my chair.

For me, every patient is not just a “clinical case”, but a story, a sensitivity, sometimes even a small fear to overcome together. I like to think that, while I take care of their smile, I am giving them back some of the confidence and well-being they deserve.

My greatest satisfaction? It’s not just a job done to perfection, but seeing a patient arrive tense and leave with a sincere smile, knowing they have been listened to and pampered. It is for them that I studied with my son in my arms, and it is for them that I continue to put passion into what I do: because every smile I help to shine is, for me, the most beautiful gift.
